Harrison Ford and Garrett Wang: Star Wars vs Star Trek

Star Trek vs Star Wars

Garrett Wang, who is best known for playing the eternally low-ranking Ensign Kim in Star Trek: Voyager, disclosed in the Delta Flyer Podcast that he creates with fellow Voyager alum Robert Duncan McNeill, that back when Voyager was in production in the 1990s, he almost ran over the legendary actor, Harrison Ford.

In recounting this near-disaster, Wang described  driving through the Paramount Studios’ parking lot, he recalled speeding around a bend and Harrison Ford appeared out of nowhere, right in front of Wang’s car ‘I’m actually speeding around the parking lot, and I come around this one bend and this guy in a suit walks between two cars, right in front of my car, so I slam on my breaks,’ Wang said.

Garrett Wang as Ensign Harry Kim

When he realized who the gentleman in the suit actually was, Wang’s first thought was “Oh my god, I almost killed Han Solo!" I would have been hated by nerds everywhere."

Thankfully, no one was hurt in this parking lot episode, but think about this for a minute in a geeky nerdy way…had Star Trek’s Ensign Kim actually hit and harmed or killed Star Wars’ Han Solo, the eternal debate between fans of the two franchises could be decidedly more belligerent.  As it is, many fans debate on social media which fictional universe is better, Star Trek or Star Wars.  That debate is, and should be, ongoing and be both passionate and logical.

Harrison Ford as Han Solo

Harrison Ford, of course, survived his encounter with the lowly ensign of a lost starship to go on to play Han Solo in the latest Star Wars movies, as well as to revisit his role as Indiana Jones.  Ford is also very well known to sci-fi aficionados for his role as Rick Deckard in the two Blade Runner films.  He is married to an actress with serious geek props as well: Calista Flockhart has starred in the popular Supergirl television show as Cat Grant.

Fans of Sarah Hyland know that she is a lovely young woman who is able to make fun of herself and her foibles. Jack Bruce, the Scottish bassist best known for his singing and powerful bass lines in the seminal British super-group Cream, has died. He was 71 years old and died of liver disease.

Jack Bruce
Jack Bruce

Considered by many to be perhaps the greatest Rock Bassist, Jack Bruce’s place Rock and Roll history is assured. Bruce played in many bands, including:

Alex Korner’s Blues Incorporated (1962-1963)-Here he played drummer Ginger Baker, and organist Graham Bond

Graham Bond Quartet (1963-1964)-Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, and Graham Bond left Blue’s Incorporated and created the Graham Bond Quartet with guitarist John McLaughlin (among others)

Graham Bond Organization (1964-1965)-Jack Bruce, now playing the electric bass, constantly fought with Ginger Baker, leading to Bruce’s decision to leave the band.

Jack Bruce Solo singleI’m Gettin Tired” (1965)

John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers (1965-1966) Here Jack Bruce teamed with the young guitar god, Eric Clapton.

Manfred Mann (1966)

Eric Clapton and the Powerhouse (1966)-This short-term studio group produced a few songs in 1966. The band consisted of Eric Clapton on guitar Paul Jones (of Manfred Mann) on harmonica, Jack Bruce on bass (at that time Bruce was also from Manfred Mann), Steve Winwood on vocal, (from the Spencer Davis Group, Pete York on drums, (also from the Spencer Davis Group), and Ben Palmer on piano, who had previously played with Clapton and Jones as a member of The Roosters. Ginger Baker was originally supposed to play drums, but was unavailable, so Palmer sat in on drums. Ben Palmer later became the road manager for Cream.

Cream (1966-1968) In forming Cream, Jack Bruce was again re-united with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. This super-group of accomplished and fairly well-know blues-rock musicians dominated the charts in their brief stint together. Major personality differences again drove them apart.

Jack Bruce Solo Career (1969-2014) Jack Bruce released 14 solo studio albums and five live albums.

West, Bruce and Laing (1972-1974) blues rock power trio super-group formed in 1972 with Leslie West (formerly of Mountain), Jack Bruce, and Corky Laing (also formerly of Mountain). WBL produced two studio albums and one live album.

B.L.T. (1981) Studio album by Jack Bruce, Robin Trower (formerly of Procol Harum) and Bill Lordan (former drummer of Sly and the Family Stone).

Jack Bruce and Robin Trower (1982-2009) -The power duo released four albums together.

Bruce, Baker, Moore (1993) A short-lived power trio, consisting of bassist Jack Bruce, drummer Ginger Baker and guitarist Gary Moore (Skid Row, Thin Lizzy, Colosseum).

Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band (1995, 1997-2000)-Jack Bruce joined up with Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band over the course of several years. This touring band features an ever-changing rotation of famous musicians.

Cream (2005) The Cream re-united for a series of concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Jack Bruce Legacy is that he is best remembered as a disciple of the joining of jazz (his original genre), blues, and rock. He helped pioneer the concept of the “Power Trio” of bass, guitar, and drums, as exemplified in Cream and many of his later collaborations with other musicians.

Star Trek Actress Arlene Martel-T’Pring-Dies

Arlene Martel (April 14, 1936- August 12, 2014): Biography, Filmography, and images of the Star Trek and Hogan’s Heroes actress.

Arlene Martel, the beautiful actress best known for playing Spock’s Vulcan bride-to-be T’Pring, passed away on August 12, 2014, was born in 1936 in the Bronx. While she had many roles in television and movies in the 1960s and 1970s, she is best known for two iconic roles. In Star Trek‘s “Amok Time” episode, Martel played T’Pring, the logically cunning bride of Enterprise First Officer Spock. One Star Trek’s enduring scenes where Spock and Kirk battle (seemingly to the death), was prompted by the machinations of T’Pring. Her other significant role came as French spy Tiger in the prisoner-of-war comedy Hogan’s Heroes. Martel portrayed the beautiful red-haired underground agent code-named Tiger in four episodes of Hogan’s. She also appeared as other characters in two more episodes.

Her ethnic ambiguity, and her ability to look different for different roles, made her believable as alien Vulcans, French red-heads, Native Americans, and other ethnicities as the roles called for.

Uniquely, she also touched Hollywood history as the real-life girlfriend of actor and icon James Dean, and by dating Cary Grant.

Martel married three times, with her first marriage to Robert Palmer, her second marriage to actor Jerry Douglas, and her third to Boyd Holister. All three marriages ended in divorce. Arlene Martel had three children: Adam Palmer, Avra Douglas, and Los Angeles Times editor Jod Kaftan.

Gal Gadot: Is She Too Thin To Play Wonder Woman?

As most comic book movie fans know by now, Israeli actress Gal Gadot (best known for her minor roles in the Fast and Furious movies with the late Paul Walker and the very-much alive Vin Diesel), has been cast to portray the Amazonian Princess, Wonder Woman in the upcoming DC Comics movie, best known as the “Superman/Batman Movie.”

Since Wonder Woman is, well, an Amazon warrior, she seen in the comics as tall, strong, powerful, and, well, rather busty. And did we mention strong? As in, she has muscles? In most versions of Wonder Woman in the comics, Wonder Woman is considered to be up there with the most powerful members of the Justice League. Her strength and durability puts her on par with the strongest female heroes, such as Supergirl or Power Girl. In effect, she is one of the most powerful, and, as a trained warrior, one of the most deadly members of the Justice League. Here are some action picture of Wonder Woman as depicted in the comics.

When word of the affair between Paula Broadwell and General Petraeus, many people who knew them were shocked. Broadwell worked closely with Petraeus as she co-authored a glowing biography of the general titled “All In." Apparently, David Petraeus did indeed go “All In" as they maintained an affair that eventually brought him down, forcing him to resign his office as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Does the fact we are at war with an enemy in a conflict that heavily involves the CIA in both combat an intelligence-gathering outweigh the supposed security risk of the CIA Director cheating on his wife?
