Armstrong Custer (December 5, 1839 –
June 25, 1876)
George
Custer is best known for his disastrous
defeat at the Battle of the Little
Bighorn, also known as "Custer's Last
Stand." Prior to this infamous defeat,
Custer was known to the American public of
his time as a hero of the Civil War and a
renowned Army commander in the unsettled
frontier.
