Van Halen- Rock music band (founded 1972).

Van Halen! For anyone who was into popular rock music from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s, that name launches memories of MTV back in the days when the music station actually played music videos, and some of the premier videos on air then were by, and of, Van Halen.

The classic Van Halen lineup consisted of lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen, his brother, Alex Van Halen on drums, Michael Anthony on bass (and whiskey), and the true showman of the act, "Diamond" David Lee Roth.

This lineup changed in 1985, when David Lee Roth left Van Halen, and he was replaced by veteran rocker Sammy Hagar. Over the next two decades, Hagar and Roth would both leave and rejoin Van Halen, (with the brief interregnum of Gary Cherone in the late 1990s). In 2006, Michael Anthony, the long-time bassist was fired and replaced by Eddie Van Halen's teenaged son, Wolfgang.

On December 26, 2011, the Official Van Halen Website broke the news via a video of Van Halen practicing on stage (with David Lee Roth on vocals), that the world would soon see a new Van Halen Tour in 2012.

Van Halen played a promotional gig for music-industry insiders and music journalists at the Cafe Wha? in Greenich Village on January 5, 2012 to generate interest in their upcoming tour and album.
